The Yellow Line

The Yellow Line

There’s a
yellow line
in the center
of the road
called Life.

Those who
walk it are –
…Normal.

We put one foot
in front of the other,
and like a kid
on a balance beam
with arms out stretched,
we spend
every minute
of every day
walking the line.

We act the part
Practice our scripts,
Choreograph each step.
Analyze every performance,
Longing to fit in,
Pretending to belong.

After-all,
we just want
to be…
Normal
Neurotypical
A line walker.

Not too smart.
Not too sensitive.
Not too creative
Not too ambitious
…Just average.

But when did
Average become
Something to achieve?

The beautiful
Road called Life
is so much more
then a yellow line.

Label it any way you’d like,
Divergent

Different

Those who choose
to be lane dwellers
no longer mask
but embrace the
Unique
Amazing
Complicated
Crazy human mess
that they are…

What they are not
By any stretch of
the imagination –
is Average!
