The fog hides my sunrise,
It’s mist consuming my blanket.
The weight on my chest
Matches that on my shoulders.
So many disruptions
So much pain
-and I forget to be grateful.
Traffic
Store clerks
Finances
Sickness
Uncertainty
-and I forget to be grateful.
His health
Her depression
Their sadness
The weight unbearable
-and I forget to be grateful.
Where is happiness?
When did joy make an exit?
Pain runs through my veins,
Each breath a challenge.
Joy
Happiness
Peace
Just words now circling around me
…But just out of reach
-And then,
I remember to be grateful
Grateful for
Breath
Friends
Provision
Assistance
…And traffic
Grateful for pain and emotions
That guide me
Grateful for lifes disruptions
That engage me
I feel a lightness as
The world begins to lift from my shoulders
My lungs fill with oxygen
And my thoughts clear
The mist now washes
away my sorrow
And the sun shines brightly
behind the fog
And I am –
Grateful.
