My heart is heavy
My heart is joyful.
We’ve been here before
Likely here again,
And yet it isn’t
Any easier.
This one has been
Writing her own story
Since the day she
Was born.
She came too soon –
25 weeks is not enough.
“She’s a fighter,”
Is what we heard.
And a fighter
She is.
She’s my Warrior Princess,
Queen of the Pokemon.
She has deep knowledge
Of the Greek (and all the other) gods,
Way more than this Grandma
Can comprehend.
She has her great-grandpa’s smirk
Her Grandma’s eyes
And a laugh that belongs to her alone.
She is wise
Cynical, and funny.
She has a dry sense of humor
A nonsensical mind.
She doesn’t suffer fouls
And will let you know when you are one.
Best of all –
She believes that anything
Can be a cookie.
Today, I am so grateful
For the friends that are willing to come along side.
The neighbors who stop to ask how they’re doing.
The unexpected phone call
The text messages
The lovely care packages that say –
We’re here and you are not alone.
Our world needs more of that
People who encourage
Who care,
who comfort.
It’s so easy to get stuck
in the muck of life.
But, nothing grows in the muck.
Nothing blossoms
Nothing heals
Nothing comforts.
It only takes us down,
Suffocates
Takes our focus
And crushes our spirit.
My Grandma’s Heart says,
There are so many that need
You to encourage,
Care, and comfort.
To be there when
Hearts are breaking
Loads are heavy
Futures uncertain.
Your kindness,
goodness, and love
Are in great need.
That is what changes a world.
That is what makes a difference.
That is what has made this day tolerable.
